Open Bite Treatment

An open bite occurs when the upper and lower teeth do not meet when the mouth is closed. This condition can affect both function and aesthetics, making it difficult to bite or chew properly.

WHAT IS OPEN BITE

An open bite is a type of malocclusion where there is a vertical gap between the upper and lower teeth when the mouth is closed. It can affect the front teeth (anterior open bite) or the back teeth. This condition may develop due to habits, skeletal patterns, or improper tooth eruption, and often requires a specialized orthodontic approach.

CAUSES

Open bite can be caused by several factors, including thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, prolonged pacifier use, or skeletal growth patterns. In some cases, it may also result from improper tooth positioning or eruption.

TREATMENT

Treatment of open bite depends on the severity and underlying cause. Dr. Paolo Bellini uses advanced orthodontic techniques, including hybrid orthodontics, aligners, and fixed appliances, to correct the bite and restore proper function and aesthetics. In complex cases, treatment may involve a multidisciplinary approach.
